Isolation of confirmed cases

All confirmed patients must be isolated in a negative pressure room or, failing that, in a single room with adequate ventilation.

Contact monitoring: 42 days

WHO recommends 42-day monitoring (2× maximum incubation period) for all close contacts of confirmed Andes strain hantavirus cases.

Mandatory reporting

Any suspected case of hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS) or hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) must be reported to national health authorities within 24 hours.
